Today is the birthday of Grace Hopper, Rear Admiral of the US Navy and programmer of the A-0 compiler and started the wonderful journey of development into languages such as COBOL and FORTRAN, much of which formed the building blocks of everything we use
day to day in our own jobs in programming. She was also the first to quip the term "debugging", as once there was a fault with a computer, and upon opening it up to their surprise there was a moth in the internal works of it. Certainly alot to be
said for this person, especially in times when women were deemed to be inferior. Programming and technology has generally been a male dominated environment throughout it's history, but we can see here that the god father of the great languages we use today
is actually a godmother! So lets say happy birthday to a great mind and a great pioneer in the museum of computing history!
